Libyan president to visit Athens on Wednesday

The new head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, is expected to pay a visit to Athens on Wednesday, according to To Vima.

The former ambassador of the North African country to Greece, who was deported after the signing of the Turkish-Libyan Maritime Demarcation Memorandum in November 2019, is expected to arrive in Athens on Tuesday 13 evening.

On Wednesday he will meet with President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Menfi and Mitsotakis also had a meeting during the Greek Prime Minister’s visit to Tripoli last Tuesday.

It is recalled that Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias is paying a lightning visit to Benghazi in Eastern Libya today, where he met with the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament Aguila Saleh Issa, as well as with the Deputy Prime Minister and the mayor Benghazi.

He also visited the Greek community in Benghazi, as reported by Greek City Times.

Meanwhile, Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh is visiting Ankara today, accompanied by a large group of ministers, where he will meet with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The bilateral agreements (including the Turkish-Libyan Memorandum), economic and trade agreements are expected to be put on the table, while the bilateral Strategic Cooperation Council is scheduled to meet.
