One of the largest American airlines chose Athens as its first European destination it will travel to in the post-COVID era.

Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theocharis met with Delta Air Lines president Glen Hauenstein and senior executives of the company on Friday afternoon in Atlanta.

Flights by Delta between Athens and New York is expected to begin on May 28, providing the possibility of 44 convenient connections with other U.S. cities.

At the same time, on July 2, the air connection with one of the largest international passenger junctions, Atlanta International Airport, which stopped in 2011, is scheduled to start.

It is worth noting that this airport can also be used as a link with 143 other U.S. destinations.

After the meeting, Theocharis said: “We welcome Delta Air Lines to Athens.”

“Over time, the U.S. has been a key lifeblood for Greek tourism and we warmly welcome the company’s decision to further strengthen its presence in our country with two daily flights from New York and Atlanta.

“Greece is a safe destination.

“We have taken all the measures for a safe, friendly and calm summer.

“I am very happy that our ongoing talks have brought such a positive result.”
