Turkey issues new illegal NAVTEX over Greek jurisdiction

Turkey

Turkey issued a new illegal NAVTEX from its Smyrna (Σμύρνα, Turkish: İzmir) station on Monday that overlaps the jurisdiction of the Lemnos Station.

A NAVTEX is the international maritime navigational telex/notification system.

The Smyrna Station published two new NAVTEX on Monday, one which violates the Greek islands of Samothraki and Lemnos in the Aegean Sea which is covered by the Lemnos Station.

In defiance of the Lemnos NAVTEX station, the Turkish Navy will conduct live fire exercises and expressed “caution.”

Another NAVTEX was issued by Turkey which reserves the areas between the Greek islands of Lesvos and Chios, and between Chios and Skyros, in the central Aegean Sea.

This NAVTEX is on May 20, 25 and 26 for search and rescue exercises.
