Tonight's episode of Nine's Travel Guides is set in Greece

The much anticipated season return of 'Travel Guides' produced by Nine airs at 7.30pm tonight with Episode 1 set in Greece! Our favourite travellers take off on a Greek island-hopping holiday that starts in the ancient capital, Athens, before boarding the ferry to the party island of Mykonos and then to the traditional island of Milos. GCT speaks to Greek Australian star of the show, Dorian, about the highlights of his time in Greece and how his Yiaiyia "cried a little" when she learned he was travelling back to her homeland for the show.

Travel Guides returns tonight at 7.30pm on Nine, and is set in Greece - namely Athens, Mykonos and Milos.

Season 5 of the much loved show is set to inspire with all-new local and international tourist destinations set to have you dreaming (even more) of that next big holiday.

With their hilarious reviews, our favourite travellers are back: the loveable Fren family, twin cowgirls Stack and Mel, posh retirees Kevin and Janetta, longtime couple Matt and Brett and best mates Kev, Teng and Greek Australian Dorian.

Travel Guides sees these very different groups of ordinary Aussies become travel critics, going on the same week-long holiday – reviewing the cuisine, accommodation, activities and local sights.

Their hilarious adventures will inspire you to travel and make you laugh out loud as they tell it how they see it and rate their holiday out of five stars.

Narrated by popular Aussie comedian Denise Scott, Travel Guides is produced by Nine.

Kev, (28), Dorian (24) and Teng (25) make up the group known on the series as 'Best Friends' or 'The Boys'.

Kev, Dorian and Teng are good mates who used to work together at Target. They are budget travellers who still live at home with their parents.

This trio of suburban Millennials share a love of junk food, computer games, music and movies. They are smart, positive, likeable slackers who are always quick to make fun of each other.

Kev is the sensible pop-culture expert with an arts degree. Dorian is laidback, polite and studying to become a teacher. Teng is the risk-taker who has deferred uni for the last three years and is always looking for a good time.

All are Australian-born and their combined Chinese, Greek and Vietnamese heritage gives them a unique take on the world.

Meet Travel Guides Greek Australian star, Dorian

Greek Australian Dorian’s adventure began back in 2017 whilst he and his mates scrolling through Facebook, noticed an ad calling for auditions for a new Travel Show.

Hoping for the opportunity for free travel, they made an audition tape, not really expecting to hear anything back.

Two or three days later the trio were contacted and the rest is history.

For the 22 year old, who had only ever travelled in Australia as far as Queensland, this was a dream come true.

Three years later, as part of the show, Dorian has travelled to over 30 countries, saying that he feels “so insanely lucky” to have been given this opportunity be able to visit “so many places that you didn’t even realise are on your bucket list.”

Dorian’s mother was born in Patras, west of Athens and arrived in Australia with her parents in the 1960’s on ‘The Patris’, the ship that brought tens of thousands of Greek migrants (and other nationalities) to Australia from the late fifties to mid-seventies.

The family had not been able to make it back to Greece for a few years and were so happy to learn that one of the Travel Guides episodes would take Dorian back to their homeland – with his Yiayia admitting that, “I cried a little.”

Tonight, in true Greek-style, the family has organised for a massive gathering so that they will be able to watch the Episode set in Greece at 7.30pm all together, with Kev and Teng joining in on the festivities too.

Speaking about his time in Greece, Dorian admits that he immediately fell in love upon landing at the airport in Athens, saying that it was his first real taste of Greece.

“The people were so nice, so friendly, the water was so blue,” he marvels.

“Not to mention the best souvlaki in the world!”

Of Travel Guides, Dorian says it’s really great how the show is put together, showing all aspects of travel from the varied and diverse perspectives of the different groups featured on the show.

“Travel Guides will hopefully provide a source of inspiration and provide encouragement that there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” Dorian says, hopeful that the world will soon be free of the global COVID-19 pandemic and able to travel at ease once more.

TRAVEL GUIDES SEASON 5, EPISODE 1 – GREECE, AIRS TONIGHT AT 7.30PM on NINE

In Episode 1 of the series return, our Travel Guides take off on a Greek island-hopping holiday. Starting in the ancient capital, Athens, they hop aboard the ferry to the party island of Mykonos and the traditional island of Milos.

Greece is everything they ever imagined: stunning islands, turquoise waters, sensational souvlaki and endless parties. But will an island-hopping vacation through the cradle of Western civilisation be too hectic to handle?

To get started, our Travel Guides check out the historical sites of Athens, from the huge and imposing Parthenon to the original Olympic stadium. Putting their own twist on history, they go for a few Olympic records of their own, with varying levels of success.

Leaving the chaos of Athens behind, they board the massive ferry that takes tourists around the stunning islands of the Aegean Sea. This time it’s express to Mykonos, the former fishing island turned international party destination. The Guides tuck into delicious Greek food and try to keep up with the most beautiful influencers in the world at the Super Paradise Beach Club. Some of our Guides rise to the challenge while others are left in ruins.

Back on the ferry, our travellers are longing for more stable shores. The best-kept secret in the Greek Islands awaits them on Milos, where white volcanic cliffs curve like marble into vivid blue seas. Right on the shoreline, their accommodation is fishing shacks converted into spectacular waterfront digs.

But there’s no time to relax. The party has followed our Guides to this traditional paradise. It’s one of the biggest festival days of the year and the whole island has gathered to celebrate with bells on. Literally. As well as the bells, there’s food, wine and a lot of dancing. Even our most reluctant visitors must admit it – no one parties like the Greeks.
