Lights, Camera and Action: Hollywood party at St. Basil’s Homes in Miranda

Residents and staff at St. Basil’s Miranda location recently had the opportunity to enjoy a 'Hollywood themed night' inspired by the Oscars event.

The night, organised by the St. Basil’s Customer Service Officers featured plenty of food, lookalike celebrities and lots of fun.

The event, which was enjoyed by all, was part of the St. Basil’s Homes NSW/ACT Lifestyles Activities Program that is available across all of the organisation’s nursing homes.

The program incorporates a variety of activities and events, giving the St. Basil’s aged care residents plenty of opportunities to be socially active; to continue to follow their interests and hobbies; and above all to live their life to the fullest.

Social activities keep us sharp and mentally engaged, which is extremely important in prevention of the onset of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

Studies show that seniors who stay socially active and spend quality time each day practicing mindfulness, experience numerous benefits including better cognitive function, improving memory and creativity.

In addition, social activities help to reduce anxiety and depression, an important consideration with around one in 10 older adults experiencing depression and a similar number experiencing anxiety.

With all of this in mind, St. Basil’s Homes NSW/ACT Aged Care, an activity of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, runs a lifestyle activity program across all its facilities in New South Wales.

St. Basil’s Homes NSW/ ACT Lifestyle Activity Program offers group-based activities, as well as individual programs.

The residents have the option of participating in a wide range of daily activities, including art and craft, “wrap with love” knitting sessions, cooking classes, making handmade candles and jewellery, walking, gardening, sing-alongs, dancing and many more.
