The Athens Olympic Museum has finally opened in the Golden Hall shopping mall in Maroussi after months of delay because of COVID-19 restrictions.
The museum, a member of The Olympic Museums Network, was designed in a minimalist style by local architecture practice KLab and Mulo Creative Lab.

“We had infinite sources of inspiration for the overall composition,” said KLab’s director Konstantinos Labrinopoulos, “as we had many objects to work with, supported by other museums and cultural bodies.”
“Our design, to an extent, highlights the sense of sporting competition, through the depictions of athletes in motion, which in turn is a narration of the idea of evolution of sports through time,” he added.

The Athens Olympic Museum will include rich interactive audiovisual material and personal items, medals and souvenirs from previous Olympic Games.
There will also be a café and gift shop.

The Athens Olympic Museum aims to convey the philosophy of Olympism and highlight the unique contribution of Greece to the formation of the Olympic Movement, highlighting Athens as the Olympic Capital.
