Dendias confirms invitation for Çavuşoğlu to visit Athens

By 3 years ago

The message that Greece wants de-escalation and peaceful coexistence with Turkey, but honesty, avoidance of challenges and respect for international law and the Law of the Sea is a necessary element of this effort, said Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.

Dendias first referred to the importance of the meetings he had in Ankara and pointed out that there is an invitation to his Turkish counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, to visit Athens in return for his own visit to Ankara.

He further referred to the results of the informal five-party meeting on the Cyprus issue in Geneva, stressing that "unfortunately it ended in a stalemate due to Turkish Cypriot and Turkish intransigence".

He stressed once again that any effort to resolve the Cyprus issue must be carried out within the framework of international law and the decisions of the United Nations Security Council.

He said that Greece will continue to work within this framework, in close cooperation with the Cypriot president and foreign minister to reach a solution to the Cyprus problem.
