Hardalias in Moscow - Focus on strengthening Greek-Russian cooperation

Russian Deputy Minister responsible for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (EMERCOM), Aleksandr Chupriyan, met today in Moscow with Greek Civil Protection Minister and Crisis Management, Nikos Hardalias.

During the talks, which took place in an excellent atmosphere, issues of strengthening Greek-Russian cooperation in the field of Civil Protection were extensively discussed.

There was particular emphasis on the exchange of know-how, good practices and expertise, according to the General Secretariat of Civil Protection.

Both Russia and Greece have significant experience in the prevention and response to natural disasters.

Greece, as a member of the European Civil Protection Mechanism - RescEU, actively contributes to the promotion of good practices developed in the European frame.

They also discussed the promotion of the existing Greece-Russia Agreement on cooperation in the field of prevention and response to natural and man-made disasters.

Strategic cooperation between the two countries, as member states of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC), was discussed.

In addition, Hardalias and Chupriyan signed a cooperation protocol between Civil Protection and EMERCOM on a number of issues of common interest.

Hardalias was guided to the EMERCOM Business Centre where he had the opportunity to be informed in detail about its operation, as well as to talk with executives of the Service.

In this context, the possibilities of connecting the Russian Business Centre with the respective National Coordination Center for Business and Crisis Management (ESKEDIK) of Greece was also discussed.

The Greek delegation then visited the operational centre of the Moscow Fire Brigade and was guided through its premises and discussed issues of common interest.
