The Thessaloniki Concert Hall was illuminated in blue and white on Monday night to commemorate the Greek Revolution of 1821.

2021 is an important milestone for Greece and Greeks around the world. It marks 200 years since the beginning of the Greek revolution that secured Greece’s Independence after centuries of Ottoman Turkish tyranny.

A digital Greek flag will also fly on the facade of the building until May 19. At the same, the names of the great fighters who participated in the Revolution will be displayed.

"After many years, the coastal front of the city is illuminated even more. We chose for this special honour May 17, the day the Revolution began here. It is a symbolic way to pay tribute to the thousands who fought and who unfortunately are not so well known in the participation of the 1821 Revolution," said Thessaloniki Concert Hall (OMMTH) Chairman Vassilis Gakis.
