The Panathenaic Stadium (also known as Kallimarmaro) will host the highly anticipated Dior fashion show, provided the relevant permits are obtained.

The impressive and historical stadium is planned to be used as a natural ‘catwalk’ where on June 17 the French fashion house will present its “Croisière 2022” collection.

This is a collection with a strong Greek influence, Dior’s way of commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution.

At the same time, the models are planned to be photographed at selected archeological sites and monuments around Greece, including the Acropolis.

Requests for the plans have already been submitted to the Central Council for Modern Monuments and the Central Archaeological Council.

According to Protothema, last month Dior executive visited the Acropolis, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Temple of Hephaestus, the Panathenaic Stadium, the Temple of Poseidon in Sounion, and the Temple of Zeus in Nemea in order to organise the details for the glamorous show and ad campaign.

“The house has chosen Athens, an exceptional destination, cradle of Western civilisation and European art, for its 2022 cruise collection,” Dior said in a statement last month. The cruise show comes 70 years after Monsieur Dior, the house’s founder, unveiled a couture collection at the Acropolis.

“Greece is a country that has always been close to my heart,” said Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s creative director.

“From mythology to the ‘Odyssey,’ and from architecture and philosophy to priceless crafts, Athens for me represents a dream destination for staging a show and celebrating, more than ever, the magic and transmission of cultures.”

“It is a great honour to be able to make this dream come true on June 17, in the heart of a capital of such prodigious beauty and through a wide range of artistic exchanges, from dance to drawing, and the ancestral skills that so fascinate me, which I will have the joy and privilege of showcasing in my collection,” Chiuri concluded.

The event will also showcase the creativity of local artists and artisans.
