Greece’s karate kid Dionisis Xenos won gold at the 56th EKF European Senior Karate Championships in Porec, Croatia.
He secured the gold medal after defeating Russian champion Evgeny Plakhutin 1-0 in the men's 67kg final.
“I have been waiting for six years now. Every day all these years I have been practicing 4 to 6 hours a day to live this moment,” Xenos said after winning.
"A few minutes ago I wore the gold medal around my neck and the Greek flag went up to the highest mast. What I tell you I say from my heart. No 'filters'. The next goal is to qualify for the Olympic Games," he added.
