Greek fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas strolled past Spanish Pedro Martinez 6-3 6-4 6-3, to reach the third round of the 2021 French Open.
Making his fifth Roland Garros appearance, the 22-year-old is looking to go even further than last year when he reached the semi-finals (against Djokovic). The run matched his best Grand Slam performance, having reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open twice.
“I really like playing in Paris,” Tsitsipas said in his post match interview.
“I feel like the fans have embraced me and made me one of them. So, I’m really glad my tennis is there, my performance is there, and I’m able to deliver not just good tennis but also create a good atmosphere on this court.”
The Greek star is considered one of the main contenders to challenge the imperious Rafael Nadal for the title at this year's Roland Garros tournament.
He will now face American John Isner for a spot in the fourth round.
