Greece remains on Amber list says UK Government

GREECE has not been added to the UK's green list following the government announcement.

Greece remains off the UK's green list and is still on the amber list, despite hopes that the Greek islands could be added.

Assessments are based on a range of factors, including the proportion of a population that has been vaccinated, rates of infection, emerging new variants, and access to reliable scientific data and genomic sequencing.

This means Brits will need the following when returning to the UK from Greece:

  • A negative test taken pre-arrival
  • A mandatory ten-day quarantine at home
  • Two Covid tests, taken on day two and day eight

However, while travelling to amber list destinations is not banned, the UK government advised against it.

Boris Johnson previously said: "It is not somewhere you should be going on holiday, let me be very clear about that."

Greece reported 1,379 new cases yesterday has has given the first vaccine dose to 36 per cent of the population - the UK is at 58 per cent.

It was hoped that summer hotspots such as Spanish and Greek islands plus Malta would be awarded green status, enabling quarantine-free travel there.

However no new additions were made and Portugal was moved to the amber list.

The full list of countries added to the “red list” is: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Costa Rica, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Sudan, and Trinidad & Tobago.

All changes to the lists will come into effect at 3 a.m. GMT on June 8, the government said
