A 34-year-old Algerian man wanted by French authorities who had a European arrest warrant against him was arrested in the Athens district of Kolonos, the Hellenic Police announced on Friday.
According to the arrest warrant, the Algerian man was wanted for participating in a criminal organisation that illegally forged documents used in the trafficking of migrants.
The Greek police said that the arrest was the result of an operation code named "Operation BERBER", which investigated the actions of a criminal international organisation.
Since 2018, its members provided forged documents used by migrants for their movements to several European countries.
The first phase of the operation was held in France in September 2020 and led to the arrest of key members of the ring.
