The win moves the 5th seed into the round of 16, where he'll face Pablo Carreno Busta for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Stefanos improved his record against Isner to 4-2 wins and also in a row.
He also reached 36 wins this year (36-8), which is more than any other player on tour, the next closest is Andrey Rublev (29-9).
At the end of the first set, it looked like Isner was not going to lose this match at all. Stef was firm in the big moments, defended his serve when he needed to, and showed mental strength.
