The Benaki Museum presents a major exhibition to commemorate the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution.
The exhibition “1821 Before and After”, brings to life more than 100 years of history (1770-1870).
Presented across 2,500 square meters at the Benaki's Pireos Street annex, it features 1,200 objects arranged into three parts:
Paintings, sculptures, personal items belonging to key revolutionaries, historic documents and heirlooms, can all be viewed close.
"When the Benaki Museum, which is a reference point for culture, organises one of the most important exhibitions for modern Hellenism , the result can only be admirable. Through the unique exhibits gathered here by the curators of the exhibition, the visitor and, especially, the younger generation are given the opportunity to see up close everything they have read and learned in the books," President of the 'Greece 2021' Committee, Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki said.
The exhibition was organised by the Benaki Museum, in cooperation with the Bank of Greece, the National Bank of Greece and Alpha Bank.
It is also dedicated to the memory of two people who spent their lives devoted to the museum- Angelos Delivorrias, legendary director of the museum for over 40 years, and Marinos Geroulanos, member of the board.
Make sure you see this comprehensive panorama of a pivotal century in Greek history.
