During his meeting with Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theocharis in Copenhagen, the Deputy Minister and Executive Director of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Erik Brøgger Rasmussen announced that "the Danish government has decided to lift the restrictions on Danish citizens wishing to travel to Greece."
"In the first phase, in the coming days, travel to the Peloponnese will be allowed," he said, adding: "then, from June 26, the restrictive measures to every destination in Greece will be lifted."
Regarding the decision of the Danish government to liberalise travel to Greece, the Minister of Tourism said: "We are particularly pleased with the initiative of Denmark to lift travel restrictions to our country."
"This is a development that stems from the objective data, which show a steady decline in health risk in our country," Theocharis explained.
"At the same time, the liberalisation of tourist travel between Denmark and Greece is an immediate demonstration of trust and a practical reward for the efforts made in our country for the meticulous implementation of health protocols," he said.
"Above all, however, the decision of the Danish government to resume travel to Greece is an example which, as we estimate, many other countries will soon follow," the minister concluded.
During his stay in Copenhagen, Theocharis had meetings with representatives of major tour operators, who confirmed the lively and intense interest of the public in Denmark for travel and holidays in Greece, SKAI reported
Finally, before leaving for the Swedish capital of Stockholm, the next stop of his tour in Northern Europe, Theocharis gave interviews to Danish media, where he presented the plan for the opening of Greek tourism.
The news from Denmark comes as only yesterday, British Ambassador to Greece Kate Smith, said Greece will soon be included in Britain’s “Green list” of countries.
