Young gun Michaela Laki continues to impress on the tennis court.
The 16-year-old who is from Larissa, recently defeated Sofia Kostoula 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(1) at the French Open Juniors.
In what is the first Grand Slam tournament of her career, Laki played an astonishing game against Kostoula. Despite losing the first set, she came back fighting to win the match.
This victory saw her qualify for the round of 16 at Roland Garros.
“Maria [Sakkari] and Stefanos [Tsitsipas] are role models for me as well as for all the children in Greece. They have helped a lot in the development of Greek tennis and motivate everyone to do it not only as a hobby, but also to start a championship,” Laki said in an interview.
“I admire them both very much and I hope one day I will reach as high as them… In addition to Stefanos and Maria are Serena Williams and Roger Federer,” she added.
Under the guidance of her coach Foivos Michalopoulos, the rising tennis star dreams big.
She will face No. 5 seed Robin Montgomery, in the next round.
