Erdogan will be praying for a positive outcome during Biden meeting
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is unusually ‘quiet’ ahead of his meeting with US President Joe Biden scheduled for Monday, June 14 in Brussels, following the NATO summit.
Relations between the two NATO allies have soured over the last 12 months following Turkey’s provocations in the eastern Mediterranean and its purchase of the Russian S400 missile system, which resulted in US sanctions against Turkey.
It is no wonder then, that Erdogan is particularly quiet and has retreated from using his typical chest beating polemic and inflammatory remarks as noted many media commentators in Greece.
US President Joe Biden is expected to arrive in the Belgian capital tonight, where he will stay for 42 hours, to take part in the NATO Summit on Monday, June 14 and the EU-US Summit on Tuesday, June 15.
Meanwhile, preparations in Brussels are hectic, as is the readiness of the Belgian security services. From tonight until Tuesday afternoon when the US President leaves for Geneva, the security measures are expected to be draconian.
Brussels will be under a security cordon, as in addition to the US President, they are preparing to receive 29 other NATO heads of state and government.
