Discussion on going privileges to the vaccinated based on the “French model” has already started, both at a pan-European and local level, said the Minister of State and Digital Government, Kyriakos Pierrakakis.

As he told SKAI, “6.8 million have already been vaccinated, of which 4.25 million is with the first dose and 2.75 million with both doses. More than 400,000 green certificates have been issued.”

Pierrakakis estimated that 50% of the population will be vaccinated by the end of summer.

“We are running very fast and the process is progressing step by step,” said the minister.

Commenting on giving privileges to those who have been vaccinated and who have issued the digital certificate, he pointed out that the vaccination and the legislative process must be completed first.

“There are some conditions. The first condition is, first of all, that those who want to be vaccinated can be vaccinated,” Pierrakakis explained.

“The second condition is more legislative. The regulation of the digital certificate has been passed in the European Union as well, and some aspects of it remain to be specified,” Pierrakakis said.

“We have in our hands a tool that opened a pan-European debate on how one can use it to travel. So far, more than 400,000 citizens have issued digital certificates,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, 74% of Greeks are in favor of compulsory vaccination, while 62% say they intend to be vaccinated against COVID-19, according to a study by the Institute of Health Policy.

The survery was conducted in October 2020, on a random and representative sample of 855 adults of 18 years from all over the country, and which was published on June 1 in the scientific journal “Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice”.

The researcher of the study, Professor of Health Policy at the University of Peloponnese, Kyriakos Souliotis, stated that higher rates of vaccination intention against COVID-19 are recorded in those who say they trust the recommendations of health care authorities
