Erdoğan calls Greece an "ally" during NATO Summit address

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is attempting to appear reconciliatory in Brussels today and even described Greece as an "ally."

As he stated during his speech at Thursday's NATO Summit, the revival of the dialogue with Greece contributes to the solution of the problems, but also to the regional stability.

"I believe that the revival of the channels of dialogue between us and our neighboring country and ally, Greece, contributes to the stability and prosperity of our region, as well as to the resolution of bilateral issues," he said.

At the same time, he noted that Turkey takes into account international law and respects mutual rights and interests in its "relations with its neighbours."

Government sources said that today's meeting between Erdoğan and Mitsotakis is another opportunity to further Greek-Turkish relations.

The two countries have different positions on many issues, the same sources said, stressing, however, that the channels of communication should remain open.

The Turkish president also referred to NATO, claiming that member states have not provided Ankara with the expected assistance in its so-called fight against terrorism.

"Unfortunately, we did not see the support and solidarity we hoped to see from our allies and partners in our fight against all forms of terrorism," Erdoğan said.

He also noted that terrorism is one of the biggest obstacles to stability.

It is recalled that only recently, a top foreign and security policy advisor to the Turkish president, Mesut Hakkı Caşın, went on another tirade on national television that was once again full of threats of war and historical inaccuracies regarding Greece and Turkey.

During the tirade, Caşın said“What does [Greek Prime Minister] Kyriakos Mitsotakis say? I call him Mitso-knucklehead. Dude, remember Turks saved your father."
