Ange Postecoglou will take charge of his first competitive game for Celtic FC, in Europe and in the Champions League when his side takes on Denmark’s FC Midtjylland next month.

The first leg of the Champions League second qualifying round will take place in Glasgow on July 20 or 21.

The second leg will take place on July 27 or 28.

Midtjylland head coach Bo Henriksen told the club website that Celtic FC “is a top class team in Europe. This can be seen in both budget and coefficient points, but we believe in the possibility.”

“It will no doubt be two wild matches with everything at stake. We’re looking forward to it,” he added.

Celtic FC could have also been drawn with Rapid Wien and Galatasaray.

According to a poll conducted by The Daily Record, Celtic fans wanted to be drawn with FC Midtjylland, believing it to be the easiest path for the Scottish side to progress to the next round.

Meanwhile, ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes that if Celtic manage to get a good result in the first Glasgow derby against Rangers in the upcoming Scottish Premiership season under Postecoglou, they could build on it and return to their best.

This guy [Postecoglou] will come into Celtic with two things”, Jordan said on talkSPORT.

“A, a suppressed expectation and I know it is difficult to believe because Celtic fans will demand success, but they will be underwhelmed by this appointment.

“So, he gets a little bit of latitude.

“He has got Rangers in the fourth game of the season.

“If he can start with a decent result against Rangers, then Celtic may just start motoring in a different way than people expect.

“I am optimistic for him.”

The 2021/22 Scottish Premiership kicks off on 13th July and Celtic will take on Rangers in Postecoglou’s first Old Firm derby on August 28 at Ibrox.
