Greek President presents graduation swords to new young officers

The President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, presented young lieutenants with their swords, during a graduation ceremony, held at their military academy in Vari, Attica.

In total, some 230 young lieutenants took their oath during the ceremony, with 189 of the graduated hailing from Greece, 35 from Cyprus, 2 from Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2 from Moldova, 1 from Montenegro and 1 from Armenia.

The President wished the young lieutenants a good career and good luck in their new duties.

The commander of the Academy, Lieutenant General George Kostidis, opened his speech by welcoming the political and military leadership of the Armed Forces and the Security Forces present, then proceeded with the graduation ceremony where the young men and women took the oath of their Academy.

The President was accompanied by the Minister of National Defense, Nikos Panagiotopoulos and the Deputy Minister, Alkviadis Stefanis.

The ceremony was attended, among others, by MPs from all political parties, the military leadership of the Armed Forces and the Security Forces, members of the Supreme Military Council, as well as relatives and friends of those who were sworn in.
