Today, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be joining other European leaders in Brussels to participate in the work of the European Council.
According to a letter by Council President Charles Michel, items to be addressed include the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, both in the EU and globally, migration, with Turkey and Russia are high on the agenda of the Summit today and tomorrow.
In his regular invitation to European leaders, Michel said the meeting would begin at 2pm (Greek time) with an exchange of views with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on global challenges and geopolitical issues.
With regards to immigration, Council President Charles Michel noted that the external dimension of the issue will be discussed with the "the aim is to strengthen our cooperation with the countries of origin and transit."
On international issues, the European Council will re-examine the EU's relations with Turkey, as noted in March. European leaders are expected to welcome the de-escalation in the Eastern Mediterranean and stress that it must be sustainable. At the same time, they are expected to point out the lack of progress in relations with Cyprus, but also on the issue of human rights.
