Violet Gigano, Missing French tourist found dead in a ravine on Crete

French woman, 29, who went missing on Crete on June 24 was found dead in a ravine near the Krios Promontory, North West of Chania, on Thursday. The young woman’s family had alerted French police about her disappearance and Greek authorities began a search near her last known location, where she appeared to have left her car, according to media reports. The Fire Brigade’s special disasters unit EMAK was expected to arrive at the location to retrieve the body.

An autopsy to be conducted on Friday is to determine the death causes.

The woman has seemingly walked 20 km to Elafonisi where she enjoyed a swim and walked back to the parking where she had left the car through a dangerous trekking path.

She had posted a snapshot of her staying in Elafonisi after the long hiking there.

According to initial information, its not clear if she was the victim of a fatal accident or of a crime.

Owners of a hotel in Palaiochora where she had booked a room told Alpha TV that the day she went missing she texted them she would arrived at 6 o’ clock in the afternoon. The message was texted some 3 hours earlier.

Violet Gigano was traveling alone and arrived in Chania on June 21. She disappeared on June 24, the day last day she exchanged her last text messages with her family in France.

After the family lost contact with her, it alerted French authorities, who informed their Greek colleagues. A Missing person alert was issued on Wednesday
