Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis postponed his trip to Iraq because of security concerns.

He was scheduled to visit the Middle Eastern country on Monday, but following attacks that have taken place in the country in recent days, it has been postponed.

Mitsotakis was due to visit the capital of Baghdad and Erbil in northern Iraq.

There was a rocket attack on Erbil airport last night.

The attack, which took place around 22:30 (Greek time), did not cause any injuries or serious material damage.

A car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting centre to the west of Baghdad on Friday night, killing at least 12 people.

It is recalled that last month, Mitsotakis met with the Prime Minister of the Region of Iraqi Kurdistan, Masrour Masoud Barzani, who visited Athens for the first time.

During the meeting, discussions of cooperation were examined with a focus on the economic and cultural sector.

Readiness for full cooperation was emphasised by Mitsotakis and Barzani.

The Prime Ministers of Iraqi Kurdistan and Greece also discussed a number of issues of common interest that concern the region, particularly about security and stability, as well as the respect for the rules of international law.
