“We have delivered enough vaccines to the Member States to be able to fully vaccinate at least 70% of EU adults this month,” said EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her press conference last Saturday.
Von der Leyen opened the presser by saying the EU ‘kept its word’ and that by Sunday around 500 million doses of the vaccine will have been distributed throughout the European Union.
“Our vaccination campaign has accelerated a lot since the beginning of the year. Our common approach is successful. Only together will we get out of this crisis.” said von der Leyen.
The Commission President noted that although "COVID-19 has not yet been defeated, we are ready to provide more vaccines, including (vaccines) against the new variants."
"Now Member States must do everything they can to increase vaccinations. Only then will we be safe," she concluded.
