Two drownings were reported in Patra and Chios over the weekend according to an announcement by the Hellenic Coast Guard.
Authorities reported that a 77-year-old man was pulled out of the ‘open’ beach Selianitikon in the Municipality of Aigialeia yesterday and was transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Eastern Achaia, where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations are being carried out by the Port Department of Aigio of the Central Port Authority of Patras.
Meanwhile in Chios, a 80-year-old native was also pulled unconscious yesterday afternoon from the seaside area of Parpanta of Kardamyla, Chios.
He was transported by ambulance to the "Skylitsio” General Hospital of Chios where his death was confirmed.
An autopsy was ordered by the Kardamyla Port Station of the Central Port Authority of Chios, which is conducting the preliminary investigation.
