Some 260,000 German tourists arrived in Greece during the month of June, providing a much needed boost to the local economy remarked Mr. Haris Theocharis, Minister of Tourism, during the general assembly yesterday of the Hellenic-German Chamber.
Theocharis noted the high arrival numbers are particularly encouraging for the development of the tourist year adding that last year 1.5 million Germans visited Greece and the revenues for the Greek economy amounted to 1.13 billion euros.
In 2019, a milestone year for Greek tourism, arrivals from Germany amounted to 4 million and revenues to 4 billion euros.
In his speech, Mr. Theocharis made extensive reference to the government’s plan to open Greek tourism, which last year even achieved international recognition, adding that this year there is optimism but not complacency.
The Minister went on to praise the good cooperation with the Ministry of Health and noted that tourism did not exist without health insurance in tourist destinations.
