We are facing a pandemic of the ...unvaccinated: Greek PM

Greece is faced with the dangerous strain of the Delta coronavirus mutation and with a pandemic of the unvaccinated which is only making matters worse,  noted Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his visit yesterday at the General Hospital of Chalkida.

"I say this because the vast majority of hospital admissions but mainly ICU admissions are unfortunately are unvaccinated fellow citizens who are losing or lost  their lives, but who could have been protected from a serious illness if they had chosen to be vaccinated," adding that nonetheless the country yesterday exceeded the 10 million vaccinations mark.

"I think if we had said that six months ago, everyone would have thought that this goal would not be possible. "But we did it, but we want to continue with even greater intensity," he stressed.

Mitsotakis said he hoped that the government would not have to activate a regulation voted in Parliament the same day that obliges doctors and nursing staff to become vaccinated or be suspended from their jobs. He also noted that the government was planning incentives for doctors and pharmacists to encourage people to become vaccinated.

"Our emphasis continues to be on fellow citizens who are older, especially those who are 40, 50 and 60, and who are parents of the children that are vacationing on the islands and may bring the virus back to their homes, their parents, and their grandparents," said the Greek PM
