Greece: Authorities warn of high fire risk across four regions

Greece's Civil Protection Authority (CPA) has issued a category 4 high fire risk warning for today Monday for four Regions of the country, as noted in its Fire Risk Forecast Map.

Specifically, a very high risk of fire (hazard category 4) is forecast for the following areas:

Attica (including the island of Kythera)
Central Greece (Prefecture of Evia, Prefecture of Viotia)
Peloponnese  (Corinth Prefecture, Argolida Prefecture)
North Aegean  (Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria)

The Civil Protection Authority of the Ministry of Civil Protection has informed all relevant state services involved, as well as the Regions and the Municipalities of the above areas, so that they are on increased alert in order to deal immediately with any incidents.

At the same time, the CPA  advises the citizens to be especially careful and to avoid activities in the countryside that could cause fire by negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning debris, the use of machines that cause sparks such as circular saws, soldering irons, smoking out bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc.

The CPA has issued a reminder that the burning of fields is prohibited during the fire season.
