Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on Wednesday with the King of Jordan, Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, who was in Athens to participate in the Tripartite Summit of Greece- Cyprus-Jordan.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister stated: "Welcome again. We had a very interesting discussion, both on a tripartite and bilateral level, and I think it is a great opportunity to look at the details of our bilateral relationship.
"I believe that we have identified many areas of cooperation that extend beyond the fundamental geopolitical agenda to which we must focus. It was a great pleasure to meet you and I look forward to strengthening this relationship.
The Jordanian monarch replied: "Thank you very much for the warmest welcome we could have imagined, on our return here in Athens and, as you said, for our meeting and acquaintance and the chemistry that is evident after a few only hours.
"I believe that our discussions, not only bilaterally with your country, but also with Cyprus, show that we have a lot of good work ahead of us with the appropriate follow-up.
"I confine myself to expressing my sincere satisfaction with the success of this Tripartite and Bilateral Meetings. And thank you very much. I look forward to meeting you again, I hope in the near future. Thank you very much."
During the meeting, which took place in a very warm atmosphere and reflects the excellent relations between the two countries, Mitsotakis had the opportunity to brief the Jordanian Monarch on several geopolitical developments.
These included Greek-Turkish relations, the Cyprus issue, the course of the pandemic and the measures taken by the Greek state to address it.
Greece, in order to strengthen Jordan in the fight against the pandemic, will send as a donation 150,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
At the same time, they exchanged views on other important regional issues.
The two sides agreed that the above issues must be resolved peacefully and in accordance with the principles of good neighbourliness, the rules of international law and the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.
It was also noted that there is significant room for further strengthening, enlargement and deepening of bilateral economic and trade relations and significant investment prospects.
Mitsotakis and the King expressed their mutual will for the further development of the multifaceted relations between Greece and Jordan.
