Tatar: Drones from occupied Cyprus can reach Egypt

The airport in the occupied Cypriot village Lefkoniko is the area that had been installed as unmanned aircraft and armed unmanned aircraft (drones) to be able to carry out control, said Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar in an interview with CNN Türk.

Referring to the issue of Lefkoniko air base, Tatar said that "unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) take 6 to 7 hours, from where they are in Turkey, to reach the south (free areas of Cyprus)."

He however added that these drones "will be able to take off and inspect what is happening in the area, which extends to southern Cyprus or Egypt, in a short period of time. The base of Lefkonikos is used for our defense."

Answering the question if there is a naval base in the occupied territories, Tatar said that there is no naval base and that the issue can be addressed.

Reiterating that they had changed their policy with his election, Tatar said: "We have said that negotiations could only be resumed on the basis of two states, because there is no ground for reaching an agreement on the basis of the federation in Cyprus."

Asked to comment on whether opening the enclave of Varoshia was his own idea, Tatar said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan backed the charter he sent him when he was "prime minister", adding that they started with Turkish support.
