The situation with the fire in Gortynia, in central Peloponnese, "remains difficult", Deputy Regional Director of Arcadia Christos Lambropoulos told AMNA on Sunday.
Arcadia and Gortynia townships in the Peloponnese share borders, and he said the fire spread from Ilia, in the northwest.
He said that although there are firefighters on the ground and heavy machinery, there was only one helicopter to douse the fire with water, and two airplanes were expected.
A total of eight communities had been evacuated for precautionary reasons, he said, while some homes were damaged.
Regarding a second fire front near the municipality of Megalopolis, in the Arcadia prefecture, Lambropoulos said it had crossed over from Messinia, in the southwest, and that things are better than they were yesterday.
