Shaq hands over Giannis Antetokounmpo the title of 'Superman'

By 3 years ago

Shaquille O'Neal has bestowed the ultimate honour on Giannis Antetokounmpo by giving him the title of "Superman."

Shaq shared an Instagram post on Saturday night comparing his stats and accolades at age 26 to Giannis' and said, "(Giannis) is a bad boy call him Superman just call me Shaq."

Shaq is very protective of his Superman nickname — he even has a tattoo of the Superman logo — and was not happy when future Hall-of-Famer Dwight Howard attempted to use the nickname at the 2008 NBA Dunk Contest by donning a Superman logo on his chest and wearing a red cape.

In the stats that Shaq shared, Antetokounmpo is putting up numbers that rival, if not beat, the early career of the basketball legend. Additionally, Giannis has two MVP awards, a championship and a Finals MVP at age 26.

Shaq has previously stated that Giannis was the Superman of the current era, but Saturday's post from Shaq's official Instagram account passes the mantel.

Antetokounmpo spent this week in his home nation of Greece, seen parading around the Parthenon with the Larry O'Brien and Bill Russell trophies.
