Firefighting forces reinforced in Ilia, Gortynia and eastern Mani

The firefighting forces operating in the region of Ilia, Gortynia and Eastern Mani were reinforced on Tuesday, the Fire Brigade said.

Especially in the areas of Ancient Olympia and Gortynia three helicopters and nine firefighting aircraft are dumping water along with two firefighting aircraft from Croatia and Spain.

Additionally, one helicopter and a firefighting aircraft are battling the blaze in Eastern Mani.

East Mani Deputy Mayor Drakoulakou called the fires a "biblical catastrophe" while speaking with reporters and estimates about 70% of the municipality has been destroyed.
