Russia responded to the request of Greece for aid in its fight against the fires devastating the country.

Russian President Vladimir Putin approved to send two Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft and two Mi8 helicopters to assist in Greece's efforts in fighting the blazes.

The Russian Embassy in Greece posted a video of the Il-76 in action, which is one of the largest aircraft in the world and known as the "beast."

It can carry 42 tons of water in its two tanks and can drop it from a height of up to 50 metres.

"Thanks to its high speed, it reaches even remote areas quickly," underlined the Russian embassy in Greece, adding that firefighting aircraft have already been used successfully in Armenia, Israel, Syria, Turkey, Chile and other countries.

At the same time, special mention is made to the Mi-8 helicopter, which has the ability to carry up to five tons of water.
