Towards a local COVID-19 lockdown in Heraklion - Great concern for Crete

Heraklion, Crete COVID-19

It seems that the Cretan city of Heraklion is moving towards a lockdown as the COVID-19 situation worsens.

According to Creta Live, lockdown announcements will be made today or tomorrow.

It is recalled that last week a mini lockdown was announced in both Chania and Zakynthos.

It is noted that just yesterday Greek health authorities announced 440 new cases in Crete, out of 2,595 in total.

They were distributed as following:

  • Heraklion 214
  • Lasithi 30
  • Rethymnon 51
  • Chania 145

Professor of Pulmonology, Nikos Tzanakis, warned that if the situation in Crete continues as it is, then there can be similar scenes to what Italy suffered during the first war of the COVID-19 pandemic.
