Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is still basking in the glory of his first-ever NBA title. The Greek Freak has been celebrating in Greece and he just recently received a special message from his childhood idol.
That would be Arsenal legend Thierry Henry:
Henry recounted how Giannis once told him that he would be a champion, and now he has finally done it after years of coming up short. Henry then provided some more inspirational words about delivering the title to the city of Milwaukee.
Antetokounmpo, one of the NBA’s biggest superstars, was clearly starstruck while watching this message. Henry was one of the biggest football stars in the world when Giannis was growing up, so this had to mean a lot to get these words from the Frenchman.
The Greek Freak’s run to his first title truly was inspirational. He came into the NBA as a skinny kid with a lot of raw talent and then got better and better every season, only to suffer several heartbreaking playoff defeats.
With so many people talking about him possibly leaving the Bucks and going elsewhere, Giannis decided to stick around and go for another championship. It worked out in a big way, with Antetokounmpo battling through a knee injury in the playoffs and coming back to dominate in the NBA Finals. He capped off the title run with a truly historic 50-point effort in Game 6 against the Phoenix Suns.
Thierry Henry knows a thing or two about epic performances, and Giannis Antetokounmpo came through with one for the Bucks this past season. The Bucks star is motivated to come back next season and go for the repeat.
