The Greek government has extended a ban on movement or stay in forests, national parks, Natura areas and groves till Friday 20 August 2021.
The travel prohibition was initially due to expire on 5 August but given the dangerous weather conditions that government was forced to act, adding that the ban also applies to any activity or work that may cause a fire is prohibited, such as e.g. oxygen welding or combustion of flammable matter.
Those found breaching the law in this respect, will be fined 1,000 euros in the first instance, with fines reaching 10,000 euros.
The 24 hours were extremely difficult for the Fire Brigade, as it was called to deal with a total of 106 new forest fires, from 19:00 on 11-08-2021 to 19:00 on 12-08-2021, while firefighting efforts continue on the main fronts of Evia, Ilia-Gortynia, Laconia and Parnitha, with the valuable help of foreign missions that remain on the front line and with the assistance provided by the Armed Forces, and volunteer firefighters.
