Locals hit to the ports of Attica for last-minute holidays to the islands

Athenians made their last minute booking of Greek summer for the islands over the weekend of the public holiday Dormition of the Virgin Mary on Saturday>

The ports of Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio in Attica saw high numbers of passengers.

Travellers turned up to be at the port an hour earlier, to present either a certificate of completed vaccination or proof of a negative coronavirus test in order to board.

They must also have pre filled in online a statement of health, as posted on the Shipping Ministry's web page.

According to travel agencies, destinations with the highest occupancy rates are on the Cycladic Islands.

On Saturday, a total of 24 departures are scheduled to leave from Piraeus for the islands and 18 for the nearby Argo Saronic Gulf islands, and 12 from Rafina and 9 from Lavrio (both on the eastern seaboard).

On Friday (Aug. 13), 28 boats left for the Aegean Sea (24,556 passengers), 39 for the Argo Saronic Gulf (6,776 passengers), 16 from Rafina (6,924) and 11 from Lavrio (2,964).
