FM Dendias commemorates anniversary of Turkish (Attila II) invasion of Cyprus

Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias commemorated the 47th anniversary of the second phase in Cyprus' invasion by Turkey (Attila II) with a tweet on Saturday.

"Today's anniversary revives memories of the second phase of the Turkish invasion, which led to the occupation of Famagusta, Karpasia and Morphou," he said.

"It is also a day to honour the dead and missing of Turkey's Attila invasion. It is also a day of obligation before thousands of refugees, the displaced, and those trapped, and a day of remembrance that the Cyprus issue is primarily an issue of invation and occupation of an independent and sovereign state member to the United Nations and the EU."

Greece will continue to stand by Cyprus, he added, and to fully support efforts toward a viable and operational solution to the Cyprus issue on the basis of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation.
