Cosco Shipping offered the copy of a container transport ship to the Chios Maritime Museum on Thursday during a visit of the president of the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) to the island.

The gift was handed over to the Maritime Museum by the president of OLP, Yu Zenggang, following an initiative taken by the former Ambassador of China to Greece, Zhang Qiyue.

After touring the museum, Yu Zenggang addressed a greeting by noting the great maritime tradition, history and heritage of Chios, but also the major contribution of the island to shipping in Greece and worldwide.

He also stressed that Greece and China have been pioneers for a long time and know in depth maritime issues and for this reason they must together lead developments for the future of global shipping.

Yu also referred to the large investments and the upgrade of the Port of Piraeus by Cosco Shipping and OLP.

"OLP and Cosco Shipping have been doing important work in recent years in the Port of Piraeus," he said.

"We have developed excellent cooperation and close relations with Greece, we have already implemented significant investments and we continue our dynamic investment course, aiming at rendering the port one of the largest freight centres in Europe and worldwide.

"The Port of Piraeus provides high quality cruise and coastal shipping services - with the port ranking now in the top positions in Europe in passenger traffic and cargo service."
