Turkish nationals including a soldier seek political asylum in Greece


Greek authorities have reported the arrival yesterday of eight Turkish nationals in a small sailing boat in the port of Tsoutsoura, south of Heraklion, Crete.

According to their statements, there are also soldiers among them, while they believed to have been headed to France.

According to national broadcaster ERT and Cretapost, the eight Turks will seek political asylum in Greece.

During their journey fleeing Turkey their boat was damaged, Greek fishermen responded to the distress call and towed them back to safety to the coastal settlement of the municipality of Minoa Pediados.

Officials from Heraklion Port Authority have detained the Turkish nationals (they will be transferred to Heraklion), while the drafting of the case file has begun.
