Georgian man who murdered his partner took his own life in jail

A 48-year-old Georgian man being held in a police jail in Thessaloniki as a suspect for the violent murder of his 56-year-old partner has taken his own life, police announced on Thursday.

According to police sources, the Georgian man was found hanged on Thursday morning in his cell, where he was held alone, with a makeshift noose fashioned out of bandages used to bind his arm.

He was accused of the cold blooded murder of his 56-year-old female partner last Monday in Analipsi, Thessaloniki, when presented before a magistrate on Friday.

The man also faced additional charges for illegally carrying and using weapons, resisting arrest, damage to property with the use of fire and falsely stating his identity.
