THE UK government’s travel review in August 2021 will determine whether Greece stays on the amber list.
It’s worth noting that the UK government is expected to give another travel update this week with changes to the red, amber and green lists expected. This could see Croatia and Madeira moved to the amber list, which means the rules for coming back to the UK could change.
Entry rules: Anyone aged 12 or over must either show proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival, or a negative rapid antigen test within 48 hours. Greece is also open to those who are fully vaccinated against Covid, or who can show proof of recovery from Covid (this involves showing a positive PCR test result dated 30-180 days before travel).
Covid rules: Face masks are required in all indoor public or communal spaces. You’ll need proof of vaccination to sit indoors in restaurants and bars. Travel to and between most Greek islands requires a negative Covid test of proof of vaccination.
Back in the UK: Greece is currently on the amber list. This means you’ll need to take a pre-departure test, and then PCR tests on days two and eight of your return. Adults who are not fully vaccinated will need to self-isolate for 10 days.
Greece suffered a spike in Covid cases in July 2021.
However the outbreak appears to have peaked on 15 August, when new cases hit a rolling seven day average of 3,276.
Case rates have since fallen slightly to 3,141 with 52 per cent of the population of Greece is now fully vaccinated against the virus.
