Greek Paralympians win their first medals for Greece

GreeK paralympians Panos Triantafyllou and Demosthenes Michalentzakis brought Greece its first victories after winning the bronze medal in fencing and swimming respectively, prompting congratulatory messages from both the President and Prime Minister.

"Warm congratulations to our Paralympians, Panagiotis Triantafyllou for winning the bronze medal in fencing, and Demosthenes Michalentzakis for the bronze medal in swimming in the 100m. You made all Greeks proud! " said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in a social media post.

Similarly, the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou also posted a message for the  Paralympians congratulating them both.

"Warm congratulations to Panagiotis Triantafyllou and Demosthenes Michalentzakis for the bronze medals in sword and swimming, at the Tokyo Paralympic Games! We are proud of our athletes who, by their example, give strength to all of us ".

The first bronze medal came from Panos Triantafyllou in fencing, who  prevailed 15-6 over the Frenchman Vallet and secured the first medal for the Greek delegation.

The second Greek medal by Demosthenes Michalentzakis came after his excellent appearance in the 100m freestyle, finishing in 3rd place with a time of 58.73.
