Greek weightlifter Dimitris Bakochristos has won a bronze medal for Greece  at the Tokyo Paralympics on Thursday, only missing out on the silver medal due to his weight.

"I am very satisfied. Despite the fact that we had some difficulties and that I faced some injuries, in the end we were vindicated. This medal gives me great strength. I sincerely feel great emotion and pride," said Bakochristos in an interview with Greek news agency ANA.

Asked whether he was upset to lose the medal in a tie, he said he was very pleased on the basis of the weight he has lifted in training, during a stressful preparation in difficult conditions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On winning his second Paralympic medal, Bakochristos said that it was very important, since it showed he was among the best and had the strength to keep going for a long time yet.

"I dedicate this medal to all those that stood by me. To my family, my coach, my sponsors. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I want to dedicate this medal to our country, to Greece," he said.
