Swimmer finds World War II mortar on Greek beach, controlled explosion initiated (VIDEO)

A military mortar shell from the Second World War was reportedly discovered on Tuesday, by a citizen during his swim at Schinias beach in Marathon.

According to the media report  the swimmer immediately notified the Port Authority of Rafina, who then immediately cordoned off the area for security reasons and initiated a controlled explosion where the mortar shell was found.

Personnel from the Central Port Authority of Rafina and  Greek Navy Seals were dispatched at the spot yesterday, while there was also the assistance from a private water vessel.
