Thousands of people took the streets of central Athens and Thessaloniki yesterday to protest against vaccinations and the government new pandemic measures, leading to violent clashes with police.
Carrying familiar protest paraphernalia, such as flags, icons, and crucifixes, protestors were eventually pushed towards Monastiraki by police as they tried to track down a violent group within the protest march.
According to authorities, 47 people were arrested and taken to police headquarters while the Athens Public Prosecutor's Office was informed about what happened at the rally.
Also, in both Athens and Thessaloniki, public sector health workers also demonstrated on the occasion of the government's decision to suspend them from September 1, in case they do not submit a vaccination certificate.
